With the purpose to encourage public participation in state affairs, discussion of decisions that may have effect on the environment, giving the possibility of easy access to information about the activity of state executive authorities, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine continues the process of public discussion of the issue related to the extension of service life time of nuclear facility – Unit 1 of South-Ukraine NPP and starts public debates on re-registration of the License ЕО № 000064 authorizing operating organization NNEGC “Energoatom” to perform activity at the stage of the life-cycle “operation of nuclear facilities of South-Ukraine NPP”

Extension of service life-time of Unit 1 of South-Ukraine NPP

Operating organization NNEGC “Energoatom” submitted for the review by the SNRIU “Application on re-registration of License ЕО № 000064 to perform activity at the stage of the life-cycle “operation of nuclear facilities of South-Ukraine NPP” (Application can be found here).

Periodic Safety Review (PSR) for Unit 1 of South-Ukraine NPP, which according to legislation in force is an obligatory annex to application, contains information where operating organization substantiates safe operation of power unit until 02 December 2023.

SNRIU completed state expertise on nuclear and radiation safety of PSR materials for Unit 1 of South-Ukraine NPP (conclusions of state expertise can be found here).

With the purpose to check the completeness and correspondence of data provided by the NNEG “Energoatom” in corresponding documents, check the ability of an applicant to follow the conditions of the announced type of activity in accordance with norms and rules in force a comprehensive inspection was carried at the site of SUNPP on 7-10 October 2013. Environmental information regarding the extension of service life time of SUNPP Unit 1 is posted on the web-page of the operating organization via and was a topic of public discussion organized by the applicant in cooperation with local authorities.
