IAEA Board of Governors Concludes
On 29 November 2013, the IAEA Board of Governors concluded their two-day meeting at the Agency’s Headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
The 35-Member State Board adopted the Technical Cooperation: Report of the Technical Assistance and Cooperation Committee that included the proposed programme for 2014-2015.
The Board received an update on the Implementation of the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety and noted the report on the Agency’s assessment and prognosis in response to an emergency at nuclear power plants.
On nuclear verification matters, the Board decided to authorize the IAEA Director General to use staff with posts in the Department of Safeguards as Agency inspectors.
On the application of safeguards in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the implementation of the NPT safeguard agreements and relevant provisions of the United Nations Security Council resolutions on the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the NPT safeguards agreement in the Syrian Arab Republic, it was decided that the IAEA Director General will report on each of these activities in future as appropriate. The Director General’s report on theImplementation of the NPT Safeguard Agreements and Relevant Provisions of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions on the Islamic Republic of Iranwas derestricted and is available here.
The Board also authorized the IAEA Director General to conclude an agreement on the Third Amendment to the Agreement for Cooperation between the Agency and the United States of America.
