Energoatom Company Starts Construction of KhNPP Treatment Plant This Year

The Company will also continue the construction of a similar plant at Zaporizhzhya NPP.

The solid radioactive waste treatment plant will be constructed at KhNPP.

In 2017, the Energoatom Company plans to start the construction of the solid radioactive waste treatment plant and continue the construction of the similar plant at Zaporizhzhya NPP.

The press service of the Company reported on this with reference to Yurii Nedashkovsky, the President of the Company.

“In 2017, the Energoatom Company plans to continue the construction of the solid radioactive waste treatment plant (SRTP) at Zaporizhzhya NPP and start SRTP construction at Khmelnytsky NPP to decrease the scope of radioactive waste accumulation at the site”, Mr. Nedashkovsky said.

As previously reported, the Cabinet approved the design of the radioactive waste treatment plants to be constructed at Zaporizhzhya and Khmelnytsky NPPs.

According to the press service of the Energoatom Company, the cost for the construction of the plant at Zaporizhzhya NPP is 662.1 billion UAH, and at Khmelnitsky NPP, it makes up 1.164 billion UAH. The pilot operation of the plant is planned at ZNPP during this year, and at KhNPP it is planned in 2021.

These plants will include radioactive waste retrieval facilities, facilities for sorting and decontamination of appropriate materials, activity measurement facilities, as well as compaction, fragmentation and incineration facilities.
