Simplified Procedure for Visiting Chornobyl NPP

Everyone can see now how the Chornobyl nuclear power plant operates today. The process of the Shelter decommissioning and transformation into an environmentally safe system takes place.

“ChNPP became another exclusion zone object that can be visited by everyone interested. This will enable visitors to get a full picture of the plant operation and the projects implemented at the industrial site. Therefore, we decided to follow the principle “better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times”, SAEZ Chairman Vitaly Petruk stated.

The main attention will be paid to safety measures for visitors who will be provided with all necessary individual protective means and undergo mandatory dosimetry monitoring.

Visitors will be able to follow the footsteps of the plant’s employees during the visit. Even the road to the site will contribute to complete immersion into the atmosphere of the nuclear power plant; after all, they will go from the city of Slavutych by the same train as Chornobyl NPP workers daily go to work.

Familiarization with plant operation will start in ChNPP largest sanitary checkpoint Semyhody. Visitors will see NPP daily routine after passing the control. The main route includes visiting of many objects such as the emergency protection facilities, the local staff canteen, etc. Guests will be able to visit the main rooms at power unit 3, where the reactor control is provided, and see the power unit systems. In addition, everyone will be able to see the integrated automated control system of the Shelter in operation that controls the facility state, and learn more about the New Safe Confinement (NSC).

ChNPP Director General Ihor Hramotkin underlines: “one should remember that Chornobyl NPP is still a nuclear facility, and we should strictly follow all safety requirements for such enterprises as before. However, we try to be maximally open and transparent and minimize the number of barriers for visitors and deprive them of a complex scheme for visit coordination. I am convinced that these changes will be additional steps towards positive transformations in the country!”
