CSFSF First Stage Completed
The Ukrbudmontazh Company that is the part of the Ukrbud Corporation completed the first stage of the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility (CSFSF) in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.
According to the notification, the company has completed the fence, check points, service roads, drain systems, water reservoirs, lighting and power supply systems.
According to the press service, Ukrbudmontazh continues the construction of six kilometers of railway, which will connect the storage facility with the existing railway infrastructure in the Exclusion Zone. The completed activities will allow proceeding to the main stage of the construction of administrative buildings and the site, on which containers with the spent nuclear fuel will be located.
The Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility will accept spent nuclear fuel from three Ukrainian NPPs for storage. The total capacity of the CSFSF will be 16,529 spent fuel assemblies for VVER-440 and VVER-1000. The Holtec International Company (USA) is the contractor for the construction of containers for fuel. The operation of the spent fuel storage facility was entrusted to the Energoatom Company, which is the operating company for NPPs, the largest power producer in Ukraine.
