SNRIU Hosts WENRA Radiation Harmonization Working Group for First Time
From 5 to 8 June 2018, the SNRIU will host the Reactor Harmonization Working Group of the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (RHWG WENRA) for the first time
The first meeting of the Working Group was opened by SNRIU Chairman Hryhorii Plachkov: “For the SNRIU, participation in the WENRA is extremely important since it allows Ukraine to improve the national legislation on nuclear and radiation safety in accordance with EU standards (WENRA reference levels) and to participate in their development”.
According to Hryhorii Plachkov, despite the challenges Ukraine faces now, our state is on the right path to European Integration. “Active participation in the WENRA on a regular basis is one of important components of this process”, he summed up.
During the week, representatives of regulatory authorities of the European Union, Switzerland, Japan, Canada and Belarus will discuss a number of topical issues. Namely: improvement and implementation of WENRA reference levels for operating reactors; update of WENRA requirements for new NPPs; further work plan for RHWG WENRA; feedback after the first peer review on aging management of systems, components and structures, etc.
