The representative of the European Commission noted this during the International Conference on Challenges Faced by Technical and Scientific Support Organizations in Enhancing Nuclear Safety and Security: Ensuring Effective and sustainable Expertise” that is held in Brussels (Belgium) from 15 to 18 October 2018. “The European Commission recognized SSTC NRS as one of the most active technical support organizations in Europe. Along with us are the Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety of France (IRSN), Association for Safety of Installations and Reactors in Germany (GRS), Technical Support Organization of the Belgium Regulator (Bel V) and Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI)”, SSTC NRS director Ihor Shevchenko underlined.
The event was arranged by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to highlight the importance of enhancing scientific and technical potential to support the regulators in the decision making related to nuclear and radiation safety. The conference focused this year mainly on nuclear safety and security, emergency preparedness and response. Both technical support organizations with significant experience and recently created institutions participate in this event.
“This conference is an effective platform for experience feedback between experts to establish high-quality horizontal communications”, Ihor Shevchenko added.
Over the past few years, SSTC NRS has been an active participant in the international market of services related to expert support in the nuclear field, and has made considerable efforts to expand and deepen the international strategic partnership.
The representative of the European Commission Janos Vegh noted that the enterprise is one of the best examples of how financial and technical resources invested by the European Union can be effectively used to establish and develop a powerful specialized scientific and technical support organization to regulatory activities in the field of nuclear and radiation safety.
“SSTC NRS is an excellent example of a visual impact of money spent on technical support projects”, Mr. Janos Vegh said.
