The Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine enchance cooperation with the Kingdom of Norway

The first meeting of the Ukrainian-Norwegian Working Group on Nuclear Security, Nuclear Safety and Emergency Preparedness was held at the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine.

Co-chairmen of the Ukrainian-Norwegian working group were Deputy Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuliia Pidkomorna and the State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Audun Halvorsen.

Ukraine and Norway will work together to reduce the risk of nuclear and radiation accidents and incidents, so as reduce the risk of radioactive contamination, including by hardening the nuclear safety regime, improving the regulatory framework and strengthening the positions of state bodies responsible for nuclear safety and security, as well as through promotion of education in this field.

“The Ministry of Energy and Coal intends to further deepen its cooperation with the Norwegian energy sector and develop bilateral relations,” assured Deputy Minister Yuliia Pidkomorna. Also, Ms. Deputy thanked the Government of the Kingdom of Norway for its active support towards the reform of Ukraine’s energy sector and the effective implementation of projects already under way.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, the State Border Service of Ukraine, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine and the NNEGC “Energoatom”.
