The IAEA Director General Rafael Mariani Grossi’s Message on the COVID-19 Pandemic

Coronavirus is putting an enormous challenge in front of everybody. The IAEA is no exception.

But even in this unusual difficult circumstances we are making sure that our core essential mission continues unabated. On the one hand the inspection safeguarding nuclear materials all over the world will not stop for a single minute. An at the same time we are doing our best to our member states that have requested us our assistance for example through the provision of detection equipment which is essential to ensure early diagnostics and to help heath workers attend to this difficult circumstances.

At the same time, as you can see the empty corridor behind me which is normally is full of people, delegates, activity. We are protecting our staff by introducing telecommuting and work from home in line with the recommendations of the WHO and Austrian Federal Authorities. Even though we are facing an unusual, unexpected challenge and very difficult challenge the IEAE is stepping up and providing the continuity of service and function that our member states expect and deserve.

The IAEA cntuniues.
