Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Energy Committee: Current NPP Capacity is Less Than 49%
The Ukraine MP Andriy Gerus stated that the nuclear power plants of Ukraine operate on less than 49% of the installed capacity. According to him, this is a historical minimum, which has never been in the history of Ukraine.
“The total operating capacity of nuclear units has dropped to 6,780 MW, which is less than 49% of the total installed capacity of nuclear power plants. This is a new historical minimum, such as has never been in the history of Ukraine,” Gerus wrote.
The chairman of the parliamentary committee on energy and housing and communal services noted that in mid-April the nuclear power units were loaded to a capacity of 9,150 MW, which is 35% more, although the weather was not very different from today.
“The market has already reacted to the shutdown of nuclear units – in recent days the price of electricity has risen by 15%. This is logical, the greater the restriction of competition, the higher the price, ”he wrote.
At the same time, the MP added, there is an additional load on coal-fired power plants, some of which have 3-5 units.
