Commissioning of Belarusian NPP Postponed to 2021

Nuclear fuel at the Belarusian NPP is to be loaded in August 2020, and the initial criticality stage has been postponed to 2021.

“We believe that we will start fuel loading to the first reactor in August”, Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko informed the Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA). “This will be followed by initial criticality and then by commercial startup. The task is to fully commission Unit 1 for commercial operation by 2021 (at least in the first quarter)”.

The official did not tell why the initial criticality was postponed. According to the information previously provided by Belarusian officials, the initial criticality of Unit 1 was planned for January 2020 but later postponed to July. Fuel was delivered to the nuclear power plant in May.
