Attempt to Take Blueberries and Mushrooms with Exceeded Radionuclide Content from Exclusion Zone

The police of the Chornobyl zone of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kyiv Oblast detained citizens who collected 300 kg of wild berries (blueberries) and 20 kg of mushrooms in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and tried to transport them out of the zone without permission and dosimetric control. The content of cesium and strontium in them exceeded the permissible limits twice.

Investigators opened criminal proceedings under Art. 267-1 “Incompliance with the requirements of the radiation safety regime” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and Art. 46-1 “Incompliance with the requirements of the radiation safety regime for areas with radioactive contamination” of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.

In July, the Chornobyl NPP Police Department prevented 14 cases of illegal transport of wild berries and mushrooms from the radiation contamination zone and brought 16 people to administrative responsibility.
