Ministry of Environment to Ask for More Funds for Exclusion Zone in 2021 Budget

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources wants more funds to be allocated in the 2021 state budget for the Chornobyl exclusion zone. Minister Roman Abramovsky told reporters about this.

“The ministry is now submitting a budget request. We significantly increase our funding need, including for exclusion zone functioning. A certain number of facilities will be financed from a special fund of the state budget. There is no concern. However, functioning of the zone itself is covered by the general fund. Therefore, we address significant expectations”, Abramovsky said.

We remind that this year budget items for financing the exclusion zone were reduced. Draft law No. 32379-d adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2020” cut off funding expenditures under the Implementation of State Investment Project “Restoration of Transport Infrastructure Facilities in the Exclusion Zone”. In general, the budget of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management for 2020 was reduced from 2,900,000,000 UAH to 2,680,000,000 UAH.

Financing of program “Maintenance of Power Units and Shelter in Safe State and Measures to Prepare Chornobyl NPP for Decommissioning” was reduced this year from 1,360,000,000.000 UAH to 1,200,000,000.000 UAH; program “Support of Ecologically Safe State in Exclusion and Unconditional (Obligatory) Resettlement Zones”: from 495,890,000.000 UAH to 445,880,000.000 UAH.
