Funds for Construction of Two KhNPP Units Still Being Sought
The Ministry of Energy abandoned the Energy Bridge idea, which was supposed to become a financing source to complete Khmelnitsky NPP Units 3 and 4.
“The Energy Bridge project could have been implemented 3 years ago and it would have made sense and certain advantages. Today we, as a country, have determined the priority of full technical synchronization with European energy systems and are implementing the plan that was approved for this. Thus, we do not consider the possibility of implementing this project at all”, Minister of Energy Olha Buslavets said at the press conference on 11 September.
The official added that now, respectively, the ministry plans to look for other ways of investment to expand KhNPP capacities.
We remind that according to the Energy Bridge project, KhNPP-2 should be taken out of the unified energy system of Ukraine and connected directly to EU countries for export. A 450-kilometer power line, which is not operated now, from KhNPP to the Widełka substation near Rzeszow in Poland, would be the energy bridge. According to the Energoatom, the line can be put into operation for up to 18 months.
