Academy of State Border Guard Service Received Radiometric Equipment from Partners for 1.8 million UAH
Portable detectors to detect radioactive and nuclear materials, personal electronic dosimeters, devices to identify radionuclides and devices to identify gamma radiation were received by the National Academy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine from Norway and Sweden.
Equipment worth nearly 1,800,000 UAH was donated by Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway and the Kingdom of Sweden Erik Svedahl and Tobias Tyberg, who visited the educational institution.
According to the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, radiation monitoring devices will allow qualitative training of future border guard officers, whose activities will provide the detection and suppression of illegal movement of nuclear materials, cases of exceeding permissible radiation level, monitoring the radiation situation, etc.
“The knowledge will help during the service on the state border and fulfillment of the agency’s tasks to identify and suppress illegal movement of nuclear materials, use of radiation monitoring devices at checkpoints in order to detect exceeding permissible radiation level, monitoring the radiation situation, etc.”, is stated in the message of the State Border Guard Service.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine obtained this assistance within international technical assistance project “Equipment for the Detection of Radioactive and Nuclear Materials, Dosimetry and Decontamination, including the Training of Personnel for the Lysychansk Border Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine”. The project is being implemented upon the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway on technical and financial cooperation under the management of the Office for Radiation and Nuclear Safety of Norway. The project contractor is Nordisk Sikkerhet AS.
