The SNRIU has allowed the operation of the ZNPP Unit 5 until 2030
The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine has issued a separate permission for the first commissioning of the Zaporizhzhya NPP’s power unit No. 5 after the implementation of measures to extend its service life.
On January 5, Grygoriy Plachkov, Head of the SNRIU—Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, held a meeting with the management of NNEGC Energoatom to extend the life of power units, and after handed over a license for “operation of Unit 5 Zaporizhzhia NPP nuclear installation” at its lifetime stage.
The next date for the periodic safety reassessment of the unit was set on May 27, 2030.
At the January 6 online meeting with the participation of Energoatom, ZNPP and SSTC NRS, Grygoriy Plachkov decided to issue a separate written permission for the first launch of the Zaporizhzhya NPP Unit 5 after the implementation of measures to extend its service life.
The modernization of the equipment of the systems important for the safety of the nuclear installation has been completed, the repair and testing of the nuclear installation completion is underway.
