5th unit of Zaporizhzhya NPP connected to the grid on January 15

Now all six units with a capacity of 1000 MW each are in operation — the station has approached the full design capacitance of 6000 MW. According to the press service of NNEGC “Energoatom”, this became possible due to the commissioning of a 750 kV overhead power line from ZNPP to the Kakhovka substation, which increased the capacity of existing transmission lines. Prior to that, ZNPP could operate with a capacity of no more than 5,300 MW.

It will be recalled that on January 5, the State Nuclear Regulatiory Inspectorate extended the service life of the 5th ZNPP Unit until May 27, 2030. On January 6, Grygoriy Plachkov, Chairman of the SNRIU, issued a separate written permission for the first launch of the ZNPP № 5 nuclear power plant after the implementation of measures to extend its service life.

Zaporizhzhia NPP is the largest energy facility in Ukraine and the largest nuclear power plant in Europe with a design capacitance of 6,000 MW. VVER-1000 power units are operated at the station.
