Multimedia exhibition “Chornobyl. Journey” will open at the VDNG to the 35th anniversary of the Chоrnobyl

The Office of the President, the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and Culture and Information Policy invited to visit “Chornobyl. Travel”.

The multimedia exhibition dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Chornobyl catastrophe is divided into seven semantic blocks, which will reveal their content with the help of photos, videos and virtual reality. Archive photos and videos will tell about the Chornobyl accident and its global context. They will be complemented by the stories of eyewitnesses and people whose fates are connected with the events of April 26, 1986 and the elimination of the consequences of the accident.

One of the thematic blocks will be devoted to the dialogue on the future of the Chornobyl Zone. The artistic means of the exhibition will be: works by prominent Ukrainian artist Maria Primachenko and world artists dedicated to Chornobyl, a video Marooned by the star band Pink Floyd, shot in Pripyat. Visitors of the exhibition will have the opportunity to visit the Exclusion Zone with the help of virtual reality technology, in particular — to see with their own eyes how the 4th power unit was covered with the arch of the New Safe Confinement. And als, to record your memories, thoughts and experiences in video or audio format. After the completion of “Chornobyl. Travel ” in pavilion №1 of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements (VDNG) in Kyiv, its contents will be posted on a digital platform, which will continue to collect memory and reflections on the Chornobyl accident.

“During 35 years, enormous work has been done to preserve Chornobyl and ensure its main, barrier function,” said Lala Tarapakina, an adviser to the Minister of Environmental Protection on the development of the Exclusion Zone. “It was performed by enterprises operating in the Exclusion Zone, tour operators, public associations, liquidators, cultural workers who have been collecting stories and artifacts for years. The mission of Chornobyl is to become a territory of revival, ecology, enlightenment and memory. At the initiative of the President, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine together with SAUEZM begins the revitalization of Chornobyl. Exhibition “Chornobyl. Journey” is our first public step. Its goal is to demythologize Chornobyl, involve experts and a wide audience in the discussion of the future of the territory and, of course, once again bow to all the liquidators who saved Ukraine and the world at the cost of life and health”.

The project concept was developed and implemented by the Gres Todorchuk PR agency. Pavlo Gudimov became the curator, Slava Balbek the architect, and Oleg Nasvit the scientific supervisor. The preliminary opening of the exhibition for IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, President of Ukraine and the press will take place on April 26. “Chornobyl. Journey ” will open for visitors after the abolition of strict quarantine. Admission to the exhibition is free in compliance with all security measures recommended by the Ministry of Healthcare.
