Eventually, a person faces the need for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures using radiation sources (RS). Worldwide, the annual number of such procedures, including dental, is more than 3 billion, and for almost half of cancer patients, radiotherapy is included in the treatment plan.
The use of RS is of great benefit in diagnosing and treating patients, but it should not be forgotten that radiation could be both beneficial and harmful. Therefore, physicians should avoid unreasonable prescriptions of X-ray and radiological procedures and take care to ensure radiation protection of patients and personnel during their implementation.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has developed radiation protection posters to raise awareness and inform the staff of medical institutions conducting treatment and diagnosis using RS, as well as patients preparing for such procedures.
The State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, jointly with Uatom.org Editorial Board with the assistance of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine and the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM), translated the posters into Ukrainian. You can download and print posters for use in the IAEA Radiation Protection Posters Section, where they are free to access.
