New Compact Gamma and Neutron Radiation Detector

A group of researchers from the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), a joint center of the University of Valencia and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has received a patent for an innovative portable device that can be used to simultaneously measure and visualize both gamma and neutron radiation. It is expected that the device will find application in the detection of radioactive materials, as well as in the mitigation of the side effects of hadron therapy, which has recently been used in the treatment of cancer.

The development of this detector arises from a basic research project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) through the Consolidator Grant program for IFIC researcher César Domingo Pardo.
