Facilities to be constructed

Centralized spent fuel storage facility (CSFSF)

With the adoption of the Law of Ukraine “On the Management of Spent Nuclear Fuel for the Layout, Design and Construction of the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility for VVER Reactors at the National Nuclear Power Plants” on 9 February 2012, the decision on the construction of this storage facility in the exclusion zone was subjected to statutory recognition.

The SNRIU Board approved the conclusion of the state NRS review of the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report for CSFSF on 12 October 2016.

Energoatom President Yurii Nedashkovsky obtained the license for CSFSF construction and commissioning on 6 July 2017.

A solemn ceremony devoted to the start of ISFSF construction was held on 9 November 2017.

The facility should be commissioned on 31 March 2020, it is planned to complete construction and pre-commissioning activities in the first quarter of 2020.

Network of solar and wind power plants

A small pilot plant for the use of alternative energy sources already exists on the territory of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. It was constructed last year, now it produces 1 MW of energy, which is sent to the integrated network. For comparison, Chornobyl consumes 10 MW of energy. It is planned to expand the territory for installing solar panels and windmills, in particular, to use the spent fuel pool and the land adjacent to the plant. Alternative energy will be transferred to clean areas through ChNPP energy transmission lines and consumed by the public.
