Opening of Multifunctional Facilities of Situational Exercises

Multifunctional Facilities of Situational Exercises (MFSE) is a training complex at the George Kuzmycz National Training Center for Physical Protection, Control and Accounting of Nuclear Material of the Institute for Nuclear Research (hereinafter – KINR) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where physical protection experts can practice in solving crisis situations at nuclear facilities. Opened on 3 August 2021.

The purpose of MFSE is to bring the training of specialists involved in the physical protection of nuclear facilities closer to the conditions of real crisis situations. These are officers of the National Guard, the National Police, the State Border Guard Service, the Anti-Terrorist Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service, Radon Association experts, and licensees dealing with radioactive materials.

Therefore, the MFSE and the adjacent training ground simulate the premises, territory, engineering, and technical means (fence, checkpoint, scanners, video surveillance) of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities.

The MFSE building was renovated with the support of the US Government as part of Ukraine’s Nuclear Safety Preparedness Project.
