Results of Online Survey for Uatom.org Readers

At the end of December 2022, Uatom.org editors published a survey for readers and fans of the website and invited them to join content planning and pre-determine topics for publications in 2023.

The survey contained general questions for the site’s audience: how they find the site’s materials, how often they read publications, and is the content interesting to them.

According to the survey results, it was found that 80% of site visitors work in the field of nuclear and radiation safety. 20% are interested in the website subject for themselves.

To the question “How do they get to the website”, 60% of the survey participants answered that they purposefully open the site, 20% find materials through a link posted on the Facebook social network, and the remaining 20% – by queries in search engines, such as Google.

To the question “How often do you read publications of Uatom.org editors?” the answers were divided. 50% of participants read publications immediately after the appearance of new material, 40% – several times a week and 10% – several times a month.

The following questions were about the website subject. In particular, the editors proposed to choose the most interesting topics for the survey participants, including: state of the nuclear industry during the war in Ukraine, new developments and research in the nuclear industry, nuclear medicine, radiation safety in everyday life, radiation safety in medicine, technologies for small modular reactors, thermonuclear energy, historical events and facts in the nuclear industry, translations of foreign articles about the nuclear industry. It was possible to choose several options. You can see how the readers’ answers were distributed in the infographic below.

The survey participants also proposed their topics for materials in 2023, in particular, about the history of Ukrainian nuclear energy, security culture.

As 10% of readers noted, each website section is important in its own way, however, to the question “Which section should be covered more?” opinions were divided. 30% believe that more publications are needed on radiation safety in medicine, 30% on scientific research in nuclear energy use. Other participants also noted the need for materials in sections “Uranium facilities”, “Operating nuclear power plants”, “Non-proliferation of nuclear weapons”.

The survey also contained a question about the desire to become an author of the website’s blog. So, 7 participants answered that they wanted to become a blog author and write about radiation safety in medicine, the environment and about security culture in general.

To the question “Are you interested in the format and form of information submission?” the majority of respondents answered positively, and among the formats for information presenting, the most interesting were the article (90%) and post on Facebook (50%). It should be noted that participants could choose several answers.

The results of the survey will be useful for planning article topics for this year, and the information received will help improve the work of the Uatom.org editorial board. To ensure that our publications meet the current needs of the audience, from time to time we will conduct surveys for our readers.
